Malaria is an infectious disease caused by parasites known as Plasmodium. When a person is infected with the parasite, a person will develop symptoms of malaria disease which is usually a high fever, come and go every day or several days. Many do not show the classic pattern of infection (fever) at all. In many people the symptoms of malaria infection will look more like the flu with high fever and body aches. Some people will also complain of headaches, nausea, chills (chills), sweating, and weakness.
